2011 CARF Survey Results
May 28, 2011 In their survey report, CARF surveyors Rick Phelps and Todd Seifert stated that Functional Industries has significant strengths in many areas. Here are just a few of the strengths they cited:
- FII is recognized for its recent receipt of two prestigious awards. The first is the Johnson & Johnson – Dartmouth Community Mental Health Program Achievement Award recognizing the organization’s high number of job placements of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. The second award was from the Minnesota Association of Community Mental Health Programs. Called the Inter-Agency Collaboration Award, this recognition honored both FII and several of its collaborative partners. These awards appear to symbolize the organization’s core values of continuous quality improvement, understanding consumer choice, and collaboration with stakeholders.
- FII is recognized for its development of a Waiver Alternative program that helps bridge the gap between its extended employment program and its day treatment and habilitation services. This program is facilitating important vocational development and encourages greater independence with participants.
- Stakeholders report a high degree of satisfaction with the FII staff members, including their commitment and compassion for persons served, their creativity and flexibility in service delivery, and their desire to quickly and effectively address any identified issues.
- Despite current economic conditions, FII has continued to provide varied work opportunities for individuals receiving organizational employment services. Activities often include periods of both in-house and community-based work opportunities. These uninterrupted periods of paid work have allowed many individuals opportunities to focus on developing important skills that will lead to eventual community employment.
- The organization’s school-to-work transition program enjoys close collaboration with local school officials, which helps promote work opportunities and effective planning for post-school community employment for students receiving services.
- To assist in its employment planning process, FII utilizes a number of creative assessment tools to seek input from the persons served. These include a personal outcome assessment, a wellness plan, a personal profile, and a risk management assessment. Information gathered from these instruments appears to be used extensively in individual service planning.
- The organization is recognized for its creation of its Enduring Visions program. This program provides supports and services to facilitate the transition of individuals from organizational employment services to desired employment in the community.
